Shame on Them

The Democrats, if they continue down this path, will destroy the process that has made peaceful succession the norm in this Republic for over 200 years. A particular pox on the all of the "disenfranchised" victims groups that are riding this like a $10 Tijuana whore.

You think this will help you win national elections? Then you're unprincipled and stupid.

Feeling Skeptical

Today's Register Editorial on Federal Forest management reform starts like this:

If something feels like a sham, it probably is. So it's hard to shake skepticism about new Bush administration rules for managing the country's 155 national forests.
If it feels like a man is a child molester, he probably is.
If it feels like a woman is a terrorist, she probably is.
If it feels like a new drug is safe, it probably is.

Whoa, slayed by "Register Logic" again!

You see, the Bush Administration is giving our precious natural resources to the evil timber industry to rape and pillage. Are they crazy? Do they think that trees are a renewable resource, or something???

What Could Be Worse...

Than a typical Des Moines Register opinion column? Nothing, right...?

Nothing but John Gaps' lame, lame, lame attempt at humor.

Ya see... it's a New Year's column chock full of humorous predictions for the upcoming year. John, that's fresh. How do you come up with this stuff?

Here's a highlight:
Look out for a certain Arizona senator to make a big comeback.

Barry Goldwater missed the first time around, but 2008 could be his year, of course if he isn't still dead then.
Whee... what a knee slapper! Man, he makes Rekha look like Dave Barry.
Aragorn - No Postmodernist He

I'm re-reading The Two Towers and was struck by this exchange between the future king and Eomer when they first meet:

Eomer: It is hard to be sure of anything among so many marvels. The world is all grown strange... How shall a man judge what to do in such times?

Aragorn: As he ever has judged. Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves and another among Men. it is a man's part to discern them...

Right on Aragorn... I mean Professor Tolkien!
Iowa Bloggers Find Common Ground

And, not surprisingly... it's beer.

Kris from Random Mentality floated the idea a couple of months ago. Jeff from Tusk and Talon heeds the call and commits to a New Year's Resolution.

I think it's a great idea. It will be excellent to meet more fellow Iowa bloggers for drinks, food and (sure to be) lively conversation.

One thing guys... I'm out of the state on business the first week of February. I'm hoping we can plan for later in the month.

As for location, I could be convinced to do an overnighter in Iowa City. I really like the downtown area - many good bars and restaurants.

Let's get this thing goin'!

Anyone else sick of Des Moines local television news treating every winter storm like the end of the world?

What the Hell is He Talking About?

I think it has something to do with change being scary and how the government needs to be involved.
